The next member of our Senior Management Team to share the key lessons she has learned over the past decade is our Quality Manager, Marianna Mikus.
As a molecular biologist turned Quality Manager, my career has revolved around one core principle: behind every sample, there is a human being. Over the last decade, spanning the research sector, pharmaceutical industries, and my current role at UK Biocentre, one invaluable lesson has stood out: quality isn’t a task—it’s a mindset.
In science, precision and innovation drive discovery, but in patient care, quality ensures trust and safety. At UK Biocentre, where our work directly impacts lives, the commitment to maintaining the highest standards isn’t just about meeting regulations—it’s about ensuring dignity for the individuals behind the data.
One thing I’ve learnt is that quality can only thrive when people are empowered. Mentoring and training are not just tools but essential pillars of success. When teams understand the why behind the how they become not just doers but advocates for excellence. Fostering this mindset ensures that every sample, every process, and every outcome aligns with the standards that patients deserve.
As we celebrate UK Biocentre’s 10-year anniversary, I reflect on how science and quality converge to create impact. Our mission to serve with integrity reminds me daily of the importance of continuous improvement—not just in processes but in people. Because, ultimately, quality is a collective effort, built on the foundation of collaboration, education, and a shared purpose.
Here’s to 10 years of UK Biocentre and to many more lessons learned and shared as we continue to put quality at the heart of patient care.
