NIHR NBC commences drive for ISO15189 clinical accreditation standard.
NIHR-NBC is excited to announce its commencement of a project to obtain ISO15189 accreditation. ISO 15189  is the accepted quality standard for organisations delivering work packages that impact on clinical decision making.  Attainment of this standard follows assessment of the organisations processes and systems by an external audit by a UKAS  audit team.  Completion of this initiative will support NIHR-NBC supporting organisations including the NHS, CROs and Pharma organisations requiring work undertaken to this quality standard.

Dr Becky Munford, Head of Quality at NIHR-NBC, said “We have recognised that increasingly biomedical researchers would like their laboratory processes to be accredited to the more stringent requirements of the Medical Laboratories Standard ISO 15189. As part of our continual improvement process, we have started to work towards gaining ISO 15189 accreditation. We believe this will provide assurance to clients that our facilities operate as a centre of excellence for the collection, processing, storage and analysis of clinical biological samples.”.  Dr Mark Beggs, CEO of NIHR-NBC, agreed “UKBC has made a commitment to provide a high-quality service to our clients, which has been demonstrated by our certification to the International Quality Standard ISO 9001.  Our move towards ISO 15189 accreditation demonstrates our commitment to broadening engagement with clients with clinical applications”.
